My first hike with Derek. We planned to hit Pilchuck, as it’s a local favorite and I was heavily inspired by Andrew T Kearns‘ image from sunrise. Google it. We set out in the afternoon to hit it for sunset, but after getting up there and meeting the people in the fire lookout, we decided to rough it and stay til morning. I had a light blanket and a tiny tiny tiny heat candle (purchased from the dollar store) that we curled up around on the floor. It was miserable, but honestly one of my greatest memories. We tried to shoot the stars, but were mostly socked in by the clouds for the entire night. Even in the morning at daybreak, the sun was clouded by.. clouds, and we were slightly let down. But as per usual in the pnw, the sun heated the clouds enough to break through and we finally had glorious light.
